Ginger plays dress up!

Well, Ginger has been doing very well. She was a butterfly for a few short minutes for Halloween!! And she allowed me to put a Christmasy hat on her just long enough to take a picture. In November she started attending Intermediate training classes and has done really well. Not only is she one of the brightest in the class, but she always does something that has everyone laughing at some point during class. She won first place in her bed command relay, and tied for first in musical chairs! Tonight she will graduate from class! In January she will start taking a nose work class to help train her to use her nose, as well as, an adult training class, and a therapy certification class. Our trainer thinks Ginger would be great working with little kids who have difficulty reading. Ginger has been making lots of friends at the dog parks and continues to do well with her training. She recently went to Disneyland and got much attention from cast members and visitors to the park! Stay tuned for more pictures!

Ginger in July!

July was a very busy month for Ginger. She turned 6 months! She got spayed and microchipped! She did great at the vet's. I went to visit her on my lunch break since the vet is across the street. She was a little out of it, but she was happy to see me! When we picked her up to take her home she had on a plastic cone to keep her from licking her stitches... She did not like the cone at all. She managed to pull it off within an hour, so we tightened it. Several hours later she had managed to chew it off ! She chewed it in just the right spots so that we wouldn't be able to put it back on her!!! So we had to go to Petco and buy a donut! She tolerated the donut because it allowed her to do what she does best!!! Sniff the ground when she walks! After 5 days the donut came off and she was free to roll around and go back to her normal routine!

She traveled to San Diego for Comic Con! The ride ended up taking 4 hours but she did great in the car sleeping and looking out the window most of the time. I took her to the dog beach for a little and she got to play with some big dogs!! She has also been enjoying the dog park. She loves to get chased and will instigate trouble just to get other dogs to chase her. Video will be up shortly of her adventures at the dog park!!

She also learned a new trick! She learned roll over! She is a very healthy and happy puppy. We get a lot of compliments on how beautiful and healthy she is. She loves her dry dog food, mother Hubbard biscuits, chicken treats, carrots, and ice cubes. We haven't found it hard to feed her only dog food. Now we are working on making sure she is completely housebroken!! Hopefully this will happen in the next month or so.

Ginger at 5 months

Ginger is now 5 1/2 months old. She is getting bigger everyday it seems. She enjoys her walks outside and meeting new people and dogs! We took her to the dog park a few times, however, just after her last visit to the dog park she came down with a mild case of kennel cough. While the "cough" did seem to get better over time it has not gone away completely, so we had to take Ginger to the vet for antibiotics. At this past visit she weighed in at 17 pounds!! She has an appointment to get spayed on July 9th and we want to make sure she is healthy for that! In the meantime she is doing very well with her crate training and has had only a couple of accidents in the past month which is a very good sign. We are currently working on getting her to go 8 hours in her crate at a time, and using a bell when she needs to go outside! She is also learning the trick roll-over!!! She will be going on her first overnight trip to San Diego in July, we can't wait to see what she thinks of the doggie beach in Coronado! She will also take an obedience class so that she learns to listen to commands when out in public surrounded by other people!! Stay tuned for more updates, pictures and videos of Ginger Bertonazzi!!!

Ginger in June!

Well, we took Ginger to an off-leash dog park. While she is still learning how to socialize with other dogs she did make some friends. Some were nicer then others, and some stood up for her when she got picked on. After her day in the park we took her home for a much needed bath. On the way home Ginger lost her first puppy tooth. Unfortunately it wasn't one of the needle like teeth in the front!!! We're hoping those fall out soon!!

Stay tuned for more pictures and videos!!

Just a few new pictures of our little bundle of joy!!! She has been enjoying her walks outside and is doing well on her potty training. She is getting so big so fast. Although I can't wait for the day when she can lay calmly with us and watch a movie, I wish she would stay this size forever. She is still so soft and cuddly.

Stay tuned for pictures of Ginger at the off- leash dog park.

Ginger on the Loose

So, Ginger is 4 months old today. She weighed in at 12 pounds this morning. She got her last shot for parvo last weekend and her rabies shot today. She's been getting acclimated to going to the bathroom outside and peeing in the grass! She likes meeting calm dogs and loves meeting new people. She will give a bark when she sees someone down the sidewalk because she wants to get attention. Today she got to play with her cousin, a fellow beagle, Racky! I think she was a little too hyper for Racky, and the neighbors pounded on the wall because of all the barking... but Ginger had a lot of fun. She also started taking her heartworm medication today!! She is getting so big so fast. Her divider is almost to the end of the cage. We are still working on getting her to sleep through the night, but its getting better.

Check back soon for more video and pictures of Ginger!!!!

Ginger SNAP!!

Well, Ginger is just over 3 months now. We took her to the vet on the 17th for her 3rd shot, and she weighed in at 8.8 pounds. She is definitely growing and getting big. She is all legs! Pretty soon she will be able to jump on the couch, yet another challenge to tackle!! She has gone down to two meals a day, and is doing well with her training. Less then a month before she can explore the outdoors on her leash and use the grass to go "potty." She has been teething for a while now, and as you can see in the picture below sometimes she uses us as her chew toy... We've been soaking wash clothes and wringing them, then putting them in the freezer (thanks to the recommendation of a friend, thanks daya!!) and she loves that. She is full of energy and personality!! Stay tuned for more updates, pictures, and videos!!
